Redmond area disc golf players had long wanted a disc golf course in town. Ideas were floated from time to time about building one in the city’s Dry Canyon Park. Occasional unofficial rogue course fragments even appeared as time passed. In 2010 city officials and the Central Oregon Disc Golf Club started serious discussions. A location near the new dog park was agreed upon and a design adopted. RPF became an active partner in fund raising efforts which included a benefit disc golf tournament, sponsorship of specific course holes by businesses, and contributions of money and in kind donations by individuals and organizations. In total, about $2,700 in cash and $1,000 worth of in kind donations made it happen. The course’s actual building was a community project with hands on participation of individual, corporate, city, and non-profit organizations volunteering time, material and expertise.
