The Redmond Parks Foundation’s first project started in 2008 when dog park advocates and City of Redmond officials agreed on a need.  The grass roots group agreed with city officials on a preliminary location & design, which was approved by the city Parks Committee.  A Facebook page and fund raising effort was launched.  At first the city acted as the financial agent but, in 2009, it asked RPF to assume that role.  During 2010-11 the group had raised $32,000 from local individuals, business and foundations including a generous gift from the Weigand Family Trust that put the project over the top.

During the 2010 and 2011 the Weigand Family Dog Park was constructed.  It is located in the near north section of the Dry Canyon Park and consists of a large fenced area divided into large and small dog spaces.  Surveys of area dogs confirms that it remains the most popular place to take your owner for socializing and exercise.
